Here in the northeast at least February was, in a word, miserable. Bitterly cold (and still is - hello March!). Unless you're into that, in which case, it was your kinda month, you lucky-yet-twisted individual!

Here’s what you may have missed in February:

News

Women’s A Cappella Association (WACA) announced the groups for their first compilation album, Best of Women’s A Cappella (BOWA), the tracks of which will debut at their 2nd annual festival, SheSings, in May, In Eugene, OR. See the site for the group listing.

Speaking of SheSings, the festival, which will feature headliners Honey Whiskey Trio and The Riveters, is currently seeking instructors and groups for the May festival. Deadline to submit is March 15. http://www.womensacappella.org/#!events/c16fk

Sweden’s The Real Group did a handful of rare US dates in February, delighting hardcore a cappella fans and pros and fans of music in general.

The Sing-Off Tour, featuring Home Free, The Filarhmonic and VoicePlay, along with various assorted other groups, is underway, and will go to cities all over the country before wrapping up at the end of March. For all the dates, go to http://singofftour.com/

Jimmy Fallon (who recently took over The Tonight Show), and his barbershop quartet, The Ragtime Gals performed the R. Kelly classic "Ignition (Remix)." http://youtu.be/r2LiFsdrXF4

Festivals

Get tickets today for the Texas A Cappella Celebration, featuring ARORADakaboom, Clearly Vocal and The Marcsmen. The celebration resumes March 8, 2014 in San Antonio. Don't miss it!

SingStrong wrapped another successful event in the DC area. The weekend featured performances by Ten (The Sing-Off), Blake Lewis, The Funx, and many more. Their Chicago event is coming up is coming in April, so get tickets now!

On March 23, 2014, the Aca-West A Cappella Festival will be at the University of San Francisco! The festival is hosted by ASUSF Voices and features Deke Sharon, Vocal Producer for Universal’s hit film, “Pitch Perfect," as well as NBC's "The Sing Off." With workshops covering a broad range of topics like vocal percussion, song writing, and vocal arranging, there’s something for everyone. The London A Cappella Festival announced the creation of the London A Cappella International Summer School (whew!), a 4-day intensive program taught by the Swingle Singers and other, likewise impressive "tutors"

Boston Sings (BOSS) will return the weekend of April 11, and applications for instructors are currently being accepted.  Deadline to apply is March 7. http://bit.ly/teachBOSS2014

The 6th annual Narberth A Cappella Voice Festival took place Feb 21-23 in the UK and featured the Swingle Singers and several other artists from around the world.

Auditions

Boston's The Eight Tracks are currently looking for baritones or basses (vocal percussion a plus but not necessary!).

Home Free’s debut album titled “Crazy Life” is out and available at WalMart and on iTunes.

The Bonner Jazzchor from Bonn, Germany celebrated its 10th anniversary by releasing its debut album "Bottle This Moment" (mixed and mastered by Bill Hare and produced by Andrea Figallo) as well as a successful tour of Germany in the Fall. The #BJCTour14 continued in February with their first visit to the Netherlands where they performed 2 concerts in Rotterdam and Zevenbergen featuring 5 Dutch a capella ensembles including Pitch Control, the winners of the AAVF 2013 Denmark and a cute all-girl group of 8 - 10 year olds called Bling!
